Creating Opportunities in SugarCRM

SugarCRM_IconCreating opportunities within SugarCRM is a useful tool to utilize.  It allows you to track the customer as you go through the sales process with them, taking them from a lead through to the final sales stage.

In Sugar, selecting Create Opportunity from the menu bar will open up a form for you to complete.  You populate this with the relevant information that you require to keep track of this opportunity as it progresses through the sales process.  Here you can add in the Account Name so that it links the opportunity to the customers account, as well as Opportunity Name, Description and Next Step.  These are useful fields to complete because if your colleagues need access, it enables them to know what stage you are at.

Screen Shot 2014-02-25 at 2.39.47 PMFor the sales stage you have several options such as Initial Contact, Negotiation and Closed Won.  Using these stages allows you to track where you are at with the customer and see which accounts need contact.  You will be able to see all of the customers that fall under each category by applying a simple filter.  The probability percentage will automatically populate based on the sales stage you have selected.  Screen Shot 2014-02-25 at 2.40.20 PM You also have a choice when selecting the Lead Source.   It may have come from a referral, webinar or a even just someone looking at your website.  Noting these things down allows to you establish the best way of finding leads and tracking which ones are successful.

Once you have completed the Basic tab, click the SugarCRM one.  Here you can enter which Edition of Sugar the customer is interested in, how many licenses you believe they will need and keep track of contracts and agreements that have been put in place.  Screen Shot 2014-02-25 at 3.21.19 PMAll Sugar products are required to be paid for in advance and have supporting documents.

The Proposal tab allows you to enter the Overview and Objective for this opportunity and the final tab labelled Other has fields for you to enter the Best and Worst Case scenario’s.   Whilst these are not mandatory fields, it can be beneficial to complete them so that you can use them as reminders of what you wanted to achieve from this opportunity.  Very useful if it has been ongoing for quite some time.

Once you have completed all of the fields, click Save.  Voila!  Your opportunity has been created.
