With the pending announcement of the 2nd Annual Eligeo Ball Hockey tournament I thought I would write a blog on the importance of community efforts that Eligeo IT does.  I think people are surprised by our commitment to building a better community especially in Calgary and other communities that we are expanding to in the next year.

I was listening to the radio a few years ago and the announce came on the radio talking about an athlete here in Calgary who worked incredibly hard to improve in his sport and become the best there is.  He was training for the Olympics (and unfortunately I’ve been trying to find out who he is for the longest time) and he had spent a lot of time mentoring the younger kids.  He loved the sport so much that he had a full time job in the evenings making about $1000 a month and he lived in his car.  He lived in his car because he wanted that $1000 to go towards his sport; he donated every penny each month.

As the announcer put it, a true philanthropist is someone who gives when they truly have nothing to give.  This was one of the most inspiring moments for what we did at Eligeo IT and Eligeo C.A.R.E. (Communities Are Really Everything).

So as part of our program we commit 2% of our profits towards these initiatives and that’s only the commitment part.  I can assure you we go well above and beyond the 2% and so much so that it has become engrained in our culture to always look our for our neighbours.  The culture changes each and every person that works for us at Eligeo IT and really shows them that there is a lot more to life than just getting a pay check.

So let’s get into what we do.  We have our hands in a few different programs including the Eligeo Ball Hockey Tournament which will be announced shortly.  This is becoming our big yearly party for obviously fund raising but also our clients.  This year will be a really exciting event for everyone involved.  It will also become a huge benefit to the supporting organization that we will also be announcing shortly as well.

We also subsidized different organizations to help them get things rolling which includes South Calgary Colts football where we provided discounted services to them for their web site.  Brown Bagging for Calgary’s Kids is a big beneficiary of our new referral program and Mountain View Academy is a private school that we spend lots of time working with as well.

As our business grows so will our emphasis on the needs of our community.  It changes the individual that works for Eligeo but it also helps us deliver back into the community that is giving to us in such a great way.  You have to be thankful for all of the great people that help you succeed in your business and there is no doubt that the community is the biggest part of it.
